Who says size doesn't matter? Who would want to choose a rug that is so undersized or too big? Standard sized rugs, such as 3 x 5's and 4 x 6's, are usually placed in rooms to accentuate furniture and inglenooks. These rugs, and even smaller, can also be used in entry ways, kitchens and bathrooms as a floor mat. Larger rugs, like 6 x 9's and 9 x 12's, are commonly used for living rooms and dining rooms. Again, know where you want the rug to be placed.
No matter what your home style or your individual decorating taste, rugs help you to define and individualize that space. Braided rugs, oriental rugs, wool rugs, it doesn't matter, because they all come in such a wonderful variety of colors, sizes and shapes that your individual taste and color schemes can be perfectly satisfied. Your budget can also be a key factor in choosing the rug that's just right for you. You can choose a discount rug that will last a season, or an expensive heirloom rug which you will be proud to hand down to your children's children.
Renter Choices. If you are renting you certainly don't want to spend your money on carpets. Whether your carpets are worn or they just don't fit your decor you can give your apartment a facelift for a minimal amount of money. Then when you move you can roll up your area carpet and take it with you to your new home. There's no point in begging the landlord to change the carpets because unless they are totally shot chances are you won't get your wish. And even if you were willing to change them yourself your landlord might not approve but you'll get no arguments about putting down an area rug. In fact you don't even need permission. You can use one or more area rugs throughout your apartment to add your own personal touch and finish your home decor.
